Summer Outing with Matthew Laclair

We had a wonderful outing today with our special guest speaker Matthew LaClair. Matt gave a wonderful recounting of his experiences over the past two years. He taped his American History teacher proselytizing about religion in class and just wanted the teacher to stop. His story highlighted the ignorance of an entire system that is really just missing the point. Kudos to Matt for standing up for what is right and many thanks for his talk today. I regret that I did not tape it, but the wind we had at our picnic would have ruined the audio. I found the videos below which closely match the talk he gave to us.

Howard Zinn's new book "A People's History of the American Empire"

Nice video introduction to what should be a good read. I love the last line. "Have we not reached a point in history where we are ready to embrace a new way of living in the world. Expanding not our military power, but our humanity."

Harvard now has an atheist chaplain, who helps students celebrate the holidays without violating their core (non)-beliefs.
