GWH
February Meeting
Our next official GWH meeting will be on Tuesday, February 9, starting a bit earlier than usual at 6:30 p.m., at our usual meetingplace at the UU Church of Worcester, 90 Holden Street, Worcester. We're starting early because we have a special two-hour workshop on non-violent communication being run by Marguerite Robbins, who visits us from Concord. This topic is so critically important these days, when both non-violence and effective communication seem to be in such short supply. Feedback from those who have already seen this workshop suggests it is excellent.
Central Mass Atheist Dinner & Drinks
We're getting together once again for a night of dinner, drinks, and socializing. Bring a friend, bring a spouse but don't forget yourself! We're looking at different venues but this Meetup will most likely be in Worcester this time. More details as soon as we have them!
I'm making the RSVPs yes/no because space is limited. Please only take a spot if you are sure you can come. I will be sending reminders if you don't want to commit just yet.
Please keep in mind that most restaurants will not split the checks so be sure to bring cash.
GWH December Meeting - Human Rights Day & Humanlight Party
We will host a dual celebration for HumanLight and Human Rights Day which both occur this month.
This will be a potluck dinner so plan to bring some munchies! A casserole, dessert, finger food or your specialty dish is appreciated. Please note what you can bring when you RSVP at Meetup! Doors open at 6pm and we usually start eating by 6:30.
We will also be having our annual Yankee swap. Each person that wishes to participate in the swap should bring a small (if possible, humanism) related gift (suggested target price range of about $5 - $10). Joke gifts are perfectly acceptable, but anything at all will do. Last year's event was a fun time, with good food and good company, not to mention some pretty interesting and humorous gifts. To be fair only people who bring a swap gift can participate...

All are welcome! This event is free, but we welcome donations!
GWH November Meeting - Two Views of John Dewey on his 150th Birthday
We will have a celebration of sorts, as we mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of John Dewey, arguably one of the most important public intellectuals in American history, and an important figure in the humanist movement as well. Our evening will be entitled "Two Views of John Dewey on his 150th Birthday." This will be an opportunity to not only think about humanism's past, but also consider its future.
October Monthly Meeting - "Apes, Bones and Genes: The Science of Human Origins."
Dr. Jeremy DeSilva, an assistant professor of Anthropology at Boston University will be joining us for our monthly meeting. He has worked at early human fossil sites throughout East Africa, and has studied a population of wild chimpanzees in western Uganda. Dr. DeSilva specializes in biomechanics and has particular interest in the origins and evolution of upright walking.
