Summer Outing with Matthew Laclair

We had a wonderful outing today with our special guest speaker Matthew LaClair. Matt gave a wonderful recounting of his experiences over the past two years. He taped his American History teacher proselytizing about religion in class and just wanted the teacher to stop. His story highlighted the ignorance of an entire system that is really just missing the point. Kudos to Matt for standing up for what is right and many thanks for his talk today. I regret that I did not tape it, but the wind we had at our picnic would have ruined the audio. I found the videos below which closely match the talk he gave to us.

Humanism, Supreme Court Decision, and Obama's Reaction
As soon as the Supreme Court came out with the decision that rape did not justify the death penalty, Obama came out strongly saying he disagreed with the decision. I found this strange because most of the UCC folks (United Church of Christ which is very similar, and often merged with the Unitarian Universalists) I know are against the death penalty in general and so would be against it in the case of rape.
