TOPIC: "Religion and Politics in an Election Year" - a panel discussion:

Panelists include:
Rev. Richard Simpson, Rector of St. Francis Episcopal Church in Holden
Fr. Frank Scollen, Priest at St. Peters Catholic Church in Worcester
Rev. Aaron Payson, Minister of the UU Church in Worcester
Mr. Tahir Ali, Public Affairs Rep. of the Worcester Islamic Mosque
Mr. David Niose, President of the Greater Worcester Humanists.
Moderator: Rev. David Miller, Minister Emeritus of the UUC
We hope to confine the discussion to the following broad class of questions.
1.What is the role of religion in the politics of a pluralistic nation?
2.What are your thoughts about the separation of religious and civil authority (church and state)?
3.How do you feel about the way the political system treats non-Christians locally? Nationally?
4.How does your particular religious point of view affect your outlook on the issues mentioned above?
Audience participation will be expected after all panelists have had an opportunity to present their respective views.
We plan to terminate formal discussion no later than 9pm and to allow for private dialog beyond that time if necessary.
